From the recording Lest I Forget
‘Lest I Forget’: R. Kramberger / A. Mercier © 2021
‘Lest I Forget’ was inspired by witnessing the impact of Alzheimer’s from point-of-view of someone afflicted, and trying to imagine what the person is experiencing. They may partially recognize someone they may know, but are not able to reach out and express their thoughts. Essentially, trapped in a strange, unfamiliar world. This song is merely a small attempt to understand and interpret their suffering.
Lyrics
'Lest I Forget' (R. Kramberger / A. Mercier © 2021)
Sit…in my room
Walls…are my tomb
More like a cell
Thoughts go to dwell
Adrift… in my mind
Nothing to find
Alone in my thoughts
Again, I forgot
I can see you
But I don’t know you
I can hear you
But I can’t show you
Faces…come and go
Memories…to and fro
Trying hard to grasp
My own fleeting past
Life…all entwined
Days…won’t unwind
Trapped in my world
Dreams stay unfurled
I can see you
But I don’t know you
I can hear you
But I can’t show you
Hold…my frail hand
Can’t…understand
Help me reconnect
Dignity and respect
I can see you
But I don’t know you
I can hear you
But I can’t show you
